Summary of Activity

Our department makes efforts to elucidate the basic and clinical machanisms in the fields of respiology infectious and allergy diseases by means of various research modalities of case study, epidemiology, molecular biology, genetic study and animal study. The major diseases studied in our department include asthma/ COPD, lung cancer, respiratory infectious diseases, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnea and high-altitude pulmonary edema that mainly occurs in the highland of Shinshu area in Japan.

Research Subject

  • ?The molecular genetics in high-altitude adaptation and acclimatization.
  • ?Studying various drugs on prevention of group 3 pulmonary hypertension by using rat model.
  • ?The pathophysiology of IgG4-related respiratory disease
  • ?Seeking the optimal treatment for non-tuberculous mycobacteria infection.
  • ?Development of novel examination techniques in bronchoscope field.
  • ?Research on the pathophysiology of COPD

Outlook for Research

Respiratory, infectious and allergy diseases are increasingly important, which is expected to occupy 4 diseases (COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, and HIV infection) among the world's 10 leading causes of death in 2030. There are a lot of unsolved questions in many refractory diseases. However, accumulation of research results will provide possibilities to overwhelm these diseases and create a bright future.
