Summary of Activity

In our laboratory, anatomical pathologists (AP) and clinical pathologists (CP) work with many clinical departments.
APs are responsible for pathological diagnoses, which are essential for the clinical diagnoses and treatments that follow. We use up-to-date technology, such as genetic tests, to always provide precise and useful diagnoses. To maintain our level of precision, we have regular meetings with the clinical departments. The AP's role is becoming increasingly important in medical fields.
CPs are also critical partners in providing suitable clinical tests, maintaining precision control of the tests, and giving informative advice to clinicians. For example, CPs in the infection control section try to keep up the quality of the medical service by communicating closely to relevant clinicians.
The professional and technical expertise of the APs and CPs in our laboratory, paired with our advanced technology platforms, allow us to provide valuable information to clinicians. Furthermore, we actively conduct research in pathological, genetic, and laboratory fields, among others. Medical doctors as well as technicians are involved in this research.

Research Subject

  • ?Clarifying the mechanism of the development of interstitial pneumonia: We are investigating type II pneumocyte cultures to unravel the cause of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia.
  • ?Conducting molecular studies of alimentary mucin and digestive tract stem cells
  • ?Developing and applying a droplet, high-speed PCR test: We are developing a high-speed PCR device, in cooperation with Seiko Epson, and applying the technology to quickly detect infection, diagnose malignancies, and study the effectiveness of prospective anti-cancer drugs.
  • ?Analyzing IgG4-related diseases: We work with with clinical departments to conduct clinicopathological analysis of IgG4-related diseases.
  • ?Studying the effectiveness of the left-shifted leukocyte fraction for analysis of bacterial infection

Outlook for Research

Discovering disease mechanisms that lead to developing therapies for untreatable diseases.
Communicating with researchers around the world through international meetings and studying abroad.
