Local Innovator Development Global Core Competency Eco-Mind Program: ProgramProgramExperience-Based Training for Environmental CompetenceStrategy Design Life Creator CompetencyCompetencyProgramProgramStudents learning about solar power generationEducation: where first-year students from all facul-ties come togetherShinshu University has eight faculties in five campuses spread across Nagano Prefecture. First-year students from all faculties study together on the Matsumoto Campus taking general education courses.Develop environmental awareness in the natural surroundings of ShinshuCross-Faculty Competency Training ProgramWe offer courses in “Regional Societies”, “Globalization”, “the Environment”, “Data Science”, and “Applications of AI” which are open to all students, regardless of faculty or year of study, and constitute a special education program unique to Shinshu University. The aim of these five courses is to enable students to develop practical skills and the ability to think about the future, while cultivating a spirit of entrepreneurship. The courses can be taken in conjunction with University-wide general education courses or with the specialized courses taught by each faculty.Advanced Human Resource Development Program for Regional Revitalization to Create “Shiawase Shinshu” (Well-being Shinshu)The applications of Shinshu University (the university spearheading this project), Nagano University, and Saku University for “Supereminent Program for Activating Regional Collaboration (SPARC)” have been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for the FY2022.This program aims to produce highly specialized human resources to propel the growth fields of science and technology, as well as regional development, by shedding light on regional issues and tackling them from a cross-disciplinary perspective to promote DX and a recycling-oriented society as required by the region and industry. The project will be implemented in collaboration with industry, academia, government, and financial institutions in the Nagano prefecture, so as to meet local needs.The three universities will establish a general incorporated association in FY2023, aiming to obtain accreditation as a corporation to promote university cooperation. Cross-disciplinary educational plans will be developed across the boundaries of universities, faculties, and departments, which will adopt subjects such as “regional studies” and “data science”, as well as incorporating Project-based Learning (PBL) beginning with students who enroll in the 2024 academic year.One of the key aims of Shinshu University’s undergraduate program is that students should acquire “the ability to tackle the challenges involved in realizing a sustainable society”.
